BKS Commitments: David Curtiss
Black Kids Swim is proud to announce “BKS Commitments” a new column written by Coach Nathan Harding!
Each week Coach Harding will take a look at promising Black swimmers as they enter their freshman year of college swimming. He also will highlight various high school Juniors and Seniors who verbally commit to various college swim programs across the country.
This week we highlight rising High school Senior David Curtiss.
David is one of the most highly touted sprinters from the class of 2021! He has verbally committed to attend North Carolina State University. Olympic medalist Cullen Jones is also an alumnus of NC State. The 2019/2020 swim season was an absolute breakout season for David. Already having All-American 50 free and 100 free time standards, David managed to take down the National Independent School Record in the 50 yard Freestyle with a 19.42!
The former record was held by Olympic Champion Ryan Murphy at 19.54. The scary thing is David still has another year of High school left. Curtiss is now the 7th fastest American ever in the 17-18 age group for the 50 freestyle. He moves ahead of Olympic sprint medalist Anthony Ervin.
David joins a very deep NC State sprint group! David’s current 50 free time would be the 2nd fastest 50 free time on the current NC State roster.
We could very well be witnessing the rise of the next great American swim sprinter!
